The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd, also known as NAATI, is responsible for setting, maintaining, testing and certifying interpreters and translators in Australia. The CCL (Credentialed Community Language) test is a certification that assesses your language skills at the community level. The CCL test evaluates one’s ability to translate dialogues from English to another language (known as Language Other Than English, LOTE) and vice versa. NAATI offers CCL testing in many languages such as Nepali, Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi, Dutch, Indonesian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Russian, Thai, Tamil, Sinhalese, Persian, Polish, etc.
Candidates who pass the NAATI CCL test can claim ‘5 bonus points’ towards their permanent residency application when lodging certain point-based visa applications. However, passing the CCL test will not lead to certification, which means that the successful candidate is not allowed to work as an interpreter or a translator.
The CCL test results are published within 8 weeks of the test date and are valid for three years from the date of issue.
