This visa subclass is for international students who visit Australia temporarily to undertake their further studies in Australian institutions. The visa is granted for up to 5 years in line with the period of enrolment.

This visa allows the student to work up to 40 hours per fortnight once the course commences. The student must always maintain their visa conditions. The conditions that can be attached to a student visa are:

  • 8104 – Work limitation:
  • 8105 – Work limitation
  • 8201 – Maximum 3 Months Study
  • 8202 – Meet course requirements
  • 8204 – No higher study without approval
  • 8501 – Health cover
  • 8516 – Continue to satisfy the criteria for the grant of the visa
  • 8517 – Maintain adequate arrangements for the education of school-age dependants
  • 8518 – Maintain adequate arrangements for your education

An applicant must satisfy the following conditions to be eligible to apply for a student visa:

  • Be enrolled in a course and provide the evidence
  • Meet the English language requirements
  • Have welfare arrangement for applicants under 18 years of age
  • Have adequate health cover
  • Meet the Genuine Temporary Entrant criteria
  • Meet the financial requirement
  • Meet the health requirement
